For most of the 20th Century Riesling was the dominant Australian white grape. From the 1980's this popularity waned as Chardonnay came to the fore.

The last few years have, however, seen a recovery in the fortunes of Riesling. Australia is now producing dry, fruity, citrus-toned Rieslings that actually age well and mature.
