Historically most of Australia's Pinot Noir was picked to be blended with Chardonnay and used to produce sparkling wine. However, recently many growers have started to produce single varietal wines using Pinot Noir.

The best examples to date have tended to come from the cooler climate regions, especially around Melbourne. However there is tremendous variety shown by this grape - some are rich and full bodied, others more subtle and fragrant.
