Narkoojee
Cabernets 1999
Winemaker’s comments
The very successful 1999 Narkoojee Chardonnay was also from this
vintage. It was a relatively cool season, although quite dry. The
grapes were picked quite late in the season on May 1st
1999 and included about 9% of Cabernet Franc in the blend. The cool
season resulted in a wine of excellent colour, with intense and
lively fruit flavours. The wine was bottled on 27th
February 2001. The colour is dark cherry red with purple edges and
the bouquet is a heady scent of blackberry and blackcurrant with
overtones of chocolate and black pepper. The flavour is sweet
blackberries, cherries and plums and the texture is of soft tannins
and spicy oak with long, mouth-filling finish. After 15 months
bottle age this wine is drinking very well and will continue to
develop over another 3 to 5 years.
