Hopwood Estate
The Hopwood Estate in Echuca,
Victoria, was originally planted in 1857 by Henry Hopwood,
described locally as a 'likeable rogue'. He is considered something of a
pioneer both in the region and in terms of his planting. The vines
he planted then included Vedelho, now becoming recognised as a
terrific alternative to chardonnay. The Echuca region is gaining a
strong reputation for producing quality wines from this grape.
Today, Verdelho, Chardonnay,
Shiraz, and Cabernet are crafted by renowned winemaker Don
Buchanan and his dedicated staff, and provide excellent consistency of
style, value for money and distinctive packaging.
The estate produces two
labels:
Charlotte's Farm - named
after Henry's wife include the single varietal wines and are
targeted to be great value for money.
Hopwood - the single
vineyard blends are intended to be slightly more sophisticated,
showing a European style of blending
