grown to be a 'filler' for blending with the more popular Shiraz and
Cabernet Sauvignon grapes Merlot has recently seen a boom in popularity
in Australia, now being the third most common red grape varietal.
When grown well it shows great flavour and is much smoother than other popular reds - but when 'wrong' there is an over abundance of crunchy green pepper that overwhelms all other textures and flavours. |
